It's been a long time since my last post, but after a cross country move I'm finally up and running again! Over the past few months I've been simultaneously working on two new table designs and I just finished them both this past week. The first table of the two is what I'm calling the "woven" coffee table. Like most of my previous designs, it utilizes steel cables under tension to provide support and stability. The table consists of four curved plywood arms held in place by steel cables upon which a square sheet of glass is placed. As the cables stretch from the arms to the base, they begin to interweave with cables stemming from the other arms, thus giving the table it's name.
As usual, I started out with plenty of loose sketches and then progressed to some slightly more solid, architectural drawings like the ones above. Throughout the design process I concentrated on keeping the form somewhat organic, with my main source of inspiration being blossoming flowers. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the finished product:
Check back in a little while for the other table design!
